The meeting was held at Bryant Manor. Chairman Sullivan explained that the committee would be meeting throughout the year and not just in election years. Members explained how the committee came into being and its interaction with the Board of Aldermen. The committee spoke about progress at Assembly Square and issues that need to be addressed by the Somerville Housing Authority. Residents spoke about areas of concern including activities offered through the Council on Aging, unauthorized use of the building’s laundry facilities, security matters, pot holes, a change of a street to One Way traffic and the need for the Housing Authority to communicate with the building’s non-English speaking residents. Alderman Roche’s motion that a communication be sent to the Executive Director and to the Chairman of the Somerville Housing Authority, expressing the security concerns of the residents of Bryant Manor and of the problems resulting from the language barrier at the facility, was approved Alderman Roche’s motion that the Commissioner of Public Works repair the bricks at 89 Broadway, was approved. Alderman Roche’s motion that the Commissioner of Public Works clean the sewer in front of Bryant Manor, was approved.
