Ms. Hickey spoke about the various programs and services offered through the Council on Aging, among them, a senior chorus, cooking classes, arts and crafts, exercise programs and I. D. Day. She also informed those present that the city would pay for flu shots for elderly residents who are uninsured. Alderman White spoke about Alderman Taylor’s efforts on behalf of the city’s seniors and explained how the Board of Aldermen works to protect the city’s elderly population. Residents expressed concern over how the budget cuts would impact senior services, sidewalk safety, parking enforcement and snow removal, especially at bus stops. Alderman Connolly reminded everyone that problems can be reported to the city by dialing 311. Alderman White’s motion that the Commissioner of Public Works ensure that the bus stops near the hospital are cleared of snow, was approved.
