191866 - Renewing Garage License, Somerville Body Works, 42 Dana St., 10 autos in, 2
out.:
Mr. Nuzzo informed the members that this business has been operating with its doors open and
has been operating at night, sometimes as late as 9:30 PM, and has been parking vehicles on the
street. Mr. Nuzzo also stated that he has an issue with having to track down the owner to get him
to renew his business license.
Attorney Vigorito, representing the owner of the business, said that the neighbors have no
problem informing Mr. DePalo when there is a problem. Mr. DePalo addressed the members
saying that he was unaware of any complaints from neighbors and added that his license does not
specify that the doors to the shop must be closed.
The item was approved for sixty (60) days with the following conditions:
•
The doors at the body shop at 42 Dana Street are to be kept closed,
•
No vehicles are to be parked on the street,
•
No work is to be performed after the specified hours of operation as listed on the license
and
•
ISD will monitor the business to ensure compliance with all aspects of the license.

191962 - New Hawker Peddler License, RCN Becocom, Communications services.:
Mr. Flaherty told the members that RCN is requesting the license so that the company may be
allowed to set up tents at various locations throughout the city for the purpose of informing
people that RCN can provide another source of business to Somerville. No business would be
transacted at these remote locations, other than the collecting of names for follow-up by RCN at
a later date. RCN would not be allowed to set up on state property, in Davis Square, Prospect
Hill, Powderhouse or the Union Square areas. Mr. Flaherty will provide the committee with a
schedule of dates and locations. Alderman Heuston requested that the ward Aldermen be
notified of those dates and locations, as well.
The item was approved with the following conditions:

Alewife Auto/GE&M Auto - Requested owner to appear before Committee
Mr. Nuzzo stated that the license for this business allows 14 vehicles to be stored on the
property, however, at one point, there were 39 vehicles on the premises. Mr. Nuzzo has received
complaints from neighbors regarding the number of vehicles and he also has concerns about the
tires on the back lot. The committee directed Mr. Nuzzo to perform a site visit to determine how
many vehicles can be placed on the property and to make recommendations to the committee so
that both of the licenses for this business might be adjusted, if necessary.
