MEMORANDUM
MEMORANDUM
TO:
Mayor Joseph A. Curtatone
FROM:
Michael F. Glavin, Executive Director, OSPCD
DATE:
April 9, 2012
SUBJECT:
AN ORDINANCE AMENDING THE SOMERVILLE ZONING ORDINANCE TO
ADD A DEFINITION OF PERVIOUS AREA AND AMEND THE TABLE OF
DIMENSIONAL REQUIREMENTS AND FOOTNOTES TO REQUIRE A
MINIMUM PERVIOUS AREA ON LOTS IN CERTAIN ZONING DISTRICTS
and
AN ORDINANCE AMENDING THE SOMERVILLE CODE OF ORDINANCES
TO ADDRESS PAVING AND INCREASES IN IMPERVIOUS AREA
As you are aware, the Land Use and Legislative Matters Committees of the Board of Aldermen
recently completed their review of the proposed amendments to the Code of Ordinances and the
Zoning Ordinance to address increases in impervious area.
For your information, the Office of Strategic Planning and Community Development (OSPCD) in
collaboration with the Engineering Division of the Department of Public Works and the Law
Department are attaching updated copies of each ordinance that reflects the minor amendments made
to the proposed ordinances though the committee process.
Should the Board choose to adopt these ordinances, they would serve as updates to the Municipal
Code Amendment submitted in January 2011 (item 190871), and the Zoning Amendment submitted
in November 2011 (Item 192255 as recommended by the Planning Board in Item 192609).
OSPCD is recommending that the Board of Aldermen approve these amended ordinances.
