R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, The City of Somerville seeks to adopt a Comprehensive Plan pursuant to
Massachusetts General Laws Chapter 41, Section 81D; and,
WHEREAS, Comprehensive planning allows a City to establish a long-term guide for
future growth and development of a City; and,
WHEREAS, SomerVision extends the City of Somerville’s track record of pioneering
national models for municipal government; and,
WHEREAS, The City convened a Comprehensive Plan Steering Committee in 2009 to
undertake the process of developing a Comprehensive Plan; and,
WHEREAS, Over the past three years, the Steering Committee has worked with the City
to develop the SomerVision plan; and,
WHEREAS, The SomerVision plan incorporates the input that was developed through 26
meetings of the Steering Committee in addition to numerous public meetings
and countless volunteer hours; and,
WHEREAS, SomerVision sets out goals for the City that are both ambitious and
achievable; and,
WHEREAS, SomerVision seeks to conserve Somerville’s great residential neighborhoods,
enhance square and commercial corridors and transform opportunity areas of
the City; and,
WHEREAS, SomerVision establishes blueprints for a growth plan for Somerville that
also protects the character of Somerville’s neighborhoods; and,
WHEREAS, Per Massachusetts law, the Somerville Planning Board will be asked to
approve the SomerVision plan as the official Master Plan of the City of
Somerville; NOW THEREFORE BE IT
RESOLVED That the City of Somerville Board of Aldermen extend thanks to the
SomerVision Steering Committee for their extensive participation in this
important community process that will guide future initiatives by the City of
Somerville; AND BE IT FURTHER
RESOLVED That the City of Somerville Board of Aldermen endorses the SomerVision
plan and encourages the Somerville Planning Board to promptly adopt
SomerVision as the official Master Plan of the City of Somerville under
Massachusetts General Laws Chapter 41, Section 81D.
