192972 - Requesting confirmation of the appointment of Jay Weaver as Director of Veteran
Services.:
Mr. Weaver was interviewed by the committee for the position of Veterans Services Director.
Mr. Weaver brings with him a host of related experiences that will enable him to provide the best
service possible to the city’s veterans. In addition to a degree from Harvard University, Mr.
Weaver also holds a Juris Doctor degree from Suffolk University. While in the military, Mr.
Weaver served as an attorney in the Army’s JAG Corps in Boston, Germany and Afghanistan.
He is the recipient of several military honors, including the Bronze Star medal.
Mr. Weaver told the members that efforts will be made to get younger veterans informed of the
benefits and services available to them and to keep all veterans apprised and involved through
the use of “e-letters”. Another planned initiative is to modernize the department’s operation
through computerization. Mr. Weaver also touched on this year’s Memorial Day Parade and
acknowledged the work of Cathy Carey in bringing everything together.
