Desmond Alderman At Large Present Mr. Weaver explained that it might be easier for the city to identify veterans on its own, without relying totally on the military, and said that he plans to set up information booths at various events throughout the city in an effort to locate veterans who aren’t members of veterans posts. Chairman Connolly suggested that future meetings of this committee might be held at the various posts around the city as another means of providing outreach to veterans. Alderman Roche’s motion that the Administration consider increasing the Veterans Services Department’s budget to fund marketing/outreach efforts, including funds for tents, a podium and other items necessary for dedications, etc., was approved. Alderman Roche’s motion that the Director of Veterans Services assist the Somerville Local Hiring Task Force, chaired by Alderman at Large Bruce Desmond, with promoting the needs of Somerville’s veterans, was approved.
