Hubway Bicycle Program Information — File 193189
Hubway Bikeshare Program
What: Is a short term bike sharing program. People “join” for a period of time using their credit card and can rent a
bicycle, then return that bicycle to any Hubway Station. Membership is $85 annually, $12 for three days or $5 for a day.
When: Boston debuted Hubway in June of last year, in July Somerville, Cambridge and Brookline will join the system.
Somerville will open 8 stations, Cambridge 22, and Brookline 3 or 4.
Where: see map
Why: to help promote bicycling and transportation alternatives.
Cost: The FTA grant applies to certain items for the system, but not for operations or the cost of bicycles. We will be
using the funds for the terminals and associated equipment and launch fees. The total amount available to Somerville is
$390,397. Somerville will only be using $281,889 of the grant at this time.
