No applicants were bypassed in the selection process for these promotions. Each of the candidates below were interviewed by the committee. 193594 - Requesting the appointment of Charles Breen to the position of Deputy Fire Chief.: Mr. Breen, a lifelong Somerville resident and 2nd generation fire fighter, has 27 years on the job with 20 years in a supervisory capacity. He is a certified fire inspector and fire investigator. He has been the Acting Deputy Chief since January of this year. RESULT: APPROVED 193595 - Requesting the appointment of John Norton to the position of District Fire Chief.: Mr. Norton is a 2nd generation fire fighter with 28 years on the job who has taken numerous training classes - on his own - and has brought what he learned back to the department to train other fire fighters. RESULT: APPROVED

He has taken classes - on his own - and achieved the distinction of becoming a certified technician for breathing apparatus. He is presently working on attaining a masters degree. RESULT: APPROVED 193597 - Requesting the appointment of Michael Anzalone to the position of Fire Captain.: Mr. Anzalone was promoted to the position of Lieutenant in 2006 and is currently the Acting Captain in the department's Fir Prevention unit. RESULT: APPROVED 193598 - Requesting the appointment of Thomas Gorman to the position of Fire Lieutenant.: Mr. Gorman has 5 years on the job and has prior supervisory experience from his time with the DPW and his service in the military. He has an Associate's Degree in Fire Science and is also an EMT. RESULT: APPROVED 193599 - Requesting the appointment of John Donovan to the position of Fire Lieutenant.: Mr. Donovan, a 2nd generation fire fighter, has 17 years on the job. RESULT: APPROVED 193600 - Requesting the appointment of Derek Nolan to the position of Fire Lieutenant.: Mr. Nolan has 5 years on what he describes as the "best job in the world". RESULT: APPROVED
