Noise from Verizon facility
The committee heard from a resident about loud engine noises coming from equipment at the Verizon
facility on Willoughby Street. The noise has been a nuisance in the neighborhood for the past couple of
years. Although Verizon has installed some enclosures, the sound is still very loud. Mr. Nuzzo and Mr.
Usovicz have determined that the noise is from a generator that kicks in when there is a power failure and
they will schedule a time to meet with the facility manager to have the generator run in their presence, to
determine what action might be feasible to mitigate the sound.
Chairman O'Donovan has scheduled a follow-up meeting on this matter for September 19, 2012 at 6:00
PM.
There was also a brief discussion regarding a downed utility pole behind 9 Granite Street that needs to be
removed. The pole has been down for about one year and Comcast and RCN still have equipment on it
that needs to be removed.
Mr. Usovicz was made aware of a problem with service interruptions occurring on windy days from lines
connected to a pole on Powderhouse Blvd.
