The Central Broadway/Winter Hill Roadway and Streetscape Improvements Project has not yet been approved by HUD. Information will be provided to the committee regarding the number of residents who attended the recent public meeting on that issue. RESULT: APPROVED 196370 - That the Director of SPCD and the City Solicitor submit to this Board a proposal to impose institutional master plans.: RESULT: KEPT IN COMMITTEE 196182 - That the Director of SPCD (ISD) inform the Ward 2 Alderman about the businesses at 230 Somerville Avenue, including names, uses, permits they are seeking or are required to obtain, hours of operation, square footage, and capacity, including those businesses which have not yet received a certificate of occupancy.: The requested information was received by Ald. Heuston. RESULT: WORK COMPLETED
Committee Meeting April 22, 2014 Housing and Community Development Committee Page 2 of 2 Printed 4/23/2014 196183 - That the City Solicitor and Director of SPCD advise on the creation of an ordinance to require notification to abutters for multiple businesses housed in a single structure when such businesses do not require Planning or Zoning Board approval.: See #196184, below. RESULT: WORK COMPLETED 196184 - That the Director of SPCD (ISD) create a mechanism so members of this Board are informed of new businesses coming into their wards.: The committee discussed the desire to have neighbors and ward aldermen notified about new businesses operating in the city so that all parties might work together to avoid adversarial situations. RESULT: WORK COMPLETED 196425 - That the Manager of the US Post Office branch at 237 Washington Street appear before this Board to discuss issues with recent mail delivery in the 02143 zip code.: Alderman Niedergang distributed a communication from the USPS and both he and Alderman Heuston spoke about their conversations with Mr. Joseph Sokolski, Station Master - Greater Boston District - USPS. The committee discussed ways to get the USPS to communicate with the BOA and Mr. Shapiro will determine if the BOA President has subpoena power. RESULT: KEPT IN COMMITTEE 196632 - That the Director of the SPCD (Transportation and Infrastucture) report to this Board on plans for tree planting citywide for 2014, where trees will be planted, and how residents can submit requests to have trees planted.: Ms. Hayes distributed a 5-year tree planting plan and spoke about funding, installation and warranty of trees and how to request a tree planting. The cost for each tree, including installation and warranty, is $600. Members discussed the lack of an appropriation for tree planting in the city's yearly budgets and requested copies of the bids submitted for the tree contract. RESULT: WORK COMPLETED 196449 - That the Director of SPCD (ISD) update this Board on the site visit to 37 Jackson Road.: Mr. Smiljic reported that this property has been involved in 14 court cases since 2000 with no consequences to the property owner. Mr. Shapiro spoke about the possibility of a civil injunction and he discussed three different fining protocols. Alderman Lafuente requested copies of the violations found and citations issued as a result of the last ISD site visit and information on the allowable amounts of fines. RESULT: WORK COMPLETED
