Rossetti Subject: Truck Restrictions Good afternoon Alderman Rossetti, As requested I have attached the MassDot approved truck restrictions in Somerville. In addition I have attached the criteria required to obtain the restriction. I spoke with Terry Smith, Traffic Engineer, about the process:  Alderman requests restriction and provides an alternate truck route for the exclusion based on the criteria provided in the attachment  Traffic and Parking hires a consultant to obtain truck counts. If the truck count is equal to or exceeds the criteria the process continues. If the truck counts do not exceed the required amount the process ends  If the process continues Traffic and Parking hires a consultant to complete the requirements and submit to MassDot. This will be done based on the availability of funds. As an aside, Terry did inquire approximately 5 years ago on the cost of the consultant to complete the audit and submit. The cost at the time was approximately $15,000.00. Hopefully this provides some insight in the process.
