IN THE BOARD OF ALDERMEN: ________________, 2014
MAP AMENDMENT PURSUANT TO THE HISTORIC DISTRICT ORDINANCE
TO ENLARGE THE MORRISON AVENUE LOCAL HISTORIC DISTRICT
WHEREAS, it is the intent of the Historic District Ordinance to protect, enhance and
preserve the City’s cultural and historical resources; and,
WHEREAS, historic districts safeguard these resources and offer the best protection for the
community’s unique character through preservation of its representative built
environment; and,
WHEREAS, historic districts create strong economic benefits for the community, through
a
n increase in property values, neighborhood stability, quality property reinvestment, and
tourist appeal; and
WHEREAS, historic districts integrate the City’s goals for Smart Growth and a sustainable
green economy, by promoting reinvestment in the existing building stock, reducing
material waste, and capitalizing on our rich architectural heritage; and
WHEREAS, a survey was recently completed of 204 Morrison Avenue which is a significant
unprotected historic property in the City; and
WHEREAS, extensive outreach has been undertaken and documented to owners of
properties proposed for designation, now,
NOW THEREFORE, be it hereby ordained by the Board of Aldermen, in session assembled,
that the property listed below is approved as a Map Amendment to the Historic District
Ordinance, Sections 7‐26 of Chapter 7, Article II, of the Code of Ordinances of the City of
Somerville in accordance with Massachusetts General Laws Chapter 40C.
