Public Hearing on item 196899 Several individuals spoke in favor of the amendment citing their support for affordable housing, diversity and the need to stop gentrification. Mr. Proakis spoke about the challenges associated with this proposal and added that the Planning Department is working on an overhaul of the city's zoning code that should be ready for submittal in the fall. The record will remain open until 12:00 PM on September 12, 2014 to receive additional written comments. 196899 - Amending the Zoning Code to protect and promote affordable housing.: Alderman Niedergang stated that he does not agree with the Planning Department's proposed purpose statement and doesn't want to lose the original language. Chairman Sullivan believes that this proposal is a watered down version. RESULT: KEPT IN COMMITTEE
