The members discussed the makeup of the School Building Committee, the MSBA reimbursement policy, what the $2 million would actually be spent on and who would have oversight, contingencies for possible over-run costs, the extent of the Board of Aldermen’s role in the process - including initial and subsequent appropriation approvals and allowing the BOA President to appoint a representative to sit on the School Building Committee. Mr. Pierantozzi submitted a request for the high school to accommodate 1800 students. Using a ten year history of enrollment, the MSBA only approved 1590, at 85% capacity, which is a lower enrollment per square footage. The current enrollment is 1242, including the vocational part of the school. Mr. Pierantozzi will provide the MSBA one more year of data to consider for the request of the 1800 enrollment school size. The time line for the school is about 5-7 years and Mr. Pierantozzi suggested that regular reports from the School Building Committee be provided to keep the BOA informed of the process.
