There is quite a bit of competition from constables living in Lynn and Revere and the committee requested that the Solicitor’s Office determine how other cities and towns handle constable applications. RESULT: KEPT IN COMMITTEE 197530 - Requesting the re-appointment of James McCallum to the Housing Authority Board of Commissioners.: RESULT: KEPT IN COMMITTEE 197626 - That the City Solicitor appear before this Board's Committee on Confirmation of Appointments to discuss the hiring of a Director of Recreation and Youth.: The committee discussed various commissions, their composition and functions. Alderman Rossetti stated that the mayor is looking at all commissions and she feels strongly that the BOA should play a role in the hiring of the Director of Recreation and Youth.

RESULT: APPROVED 197753 - Requesting the confirmation of the appointment of Captain Stephen Carrabino to the position of Deputy Chief of Police.: Captain Carrabino discussed his ideas for the police department, including ways to make it more accountable and Mr. Roche spoke his successful efforts to reduce gang violence in the city. RESULT: APPROVED 197754 - Requesting the appointment of Captain Paul Trant to the position of Deputy Chief of Police.: Captain Trant has been with the police department since 1986 and shares a common goal to increase police visibility in Somerville. RESULT: APPROVED 197823 - Requesting the appointment of Lt. James Stanford to the position of Police Captain.: Lt. Stanford was in the detective bureau for the last year and is currently the District Commander for Wards 1, 2, 3 and 4.

Bernard Cotter to the position of Police Captain.: Lt. Cotter was in the domestic violence unit for 10 years and had also been working with the animal control officer. His new duties will include supervision of the 911 office. RESULT: APPROVED 197825 - Requesting the appointment of Officer Michael Kennelly to the position of Police Sergeant.: Officer Kennelly has been working with the School Department and has been in the Police Department for 28 years. RESULT: APPROVED 197826 - Requesting the appointment of Officer Christopher Ward to the position of Police Sergeant.: Officer Ward spoke about community policing in areas where there are hot spots. RESULT: APPROVED 197827 - Requesting the appointment of Officer Michael Kiely to the position of Police Sergeant.: Office Kiely holds 2 masters degrees and is an adjunct professor. He has various strengths and qualities that will be useful in the performance of his duties. RESULT: APPROVED 197828 - Requesting the re-appointment of Michael Flynn to the Board of Assessors.: RESULT: APPROVED
