Be it ordained by the Board of Aldermen, in session assembled, that the Code of Ordinances of
the City of Somerville is hereby amended as follows:
A.
Section 1-11(b) of the Code of Ordinances is amended by replacing the offense section
relative to Sections 12-8 and Sections 12-9, so that it reads as set forth below:

B.
Section 12-8 (a) is amended by striking the entire paragraph and replacing it with the
following: “No owner, occupant, tenant, or agent in charge of any land or building abutting a
sidewalk in the City of Somerville shall place or suffer to remain on such sidewalk any snow
and/or ice for more than six hours between sunrise and sunset on any day. All sidewalks shall be
cleared to the surface of the sidewalk, or, where it is impractical to do so, the sidewalk shall be
treated with sand or other suitable material. Sidewalks shall be cleared to provide a minimum
passage of thirty-six inches. The City may extend the deadlines set forth above in its discretion.
